The look and formatting are excellent. The teaching is a bit condescending and reminds me of someone who just learned something and now feel competent to teach it. The book is written for beginners so maybe I am being too tough but no one needs told 400 times that "he will reveal more later in the book". The programming examples throughout are absolutely atrocious, useless, and confusing. Also he fails to mention or demonstrate the facts and boundary behavior of each command. I really don't see how someone could learn from this. No author comes close to the writing and teaching skills of Francesco Balena.
Outdated by now, but concepts are strong. make sure to double check any of the code when doing examples and following lessons (because of course unity has made some major changes lately). Still very solid book and will at least point you in the right direction if there is any kind of discrepancy in the newer versions. Easy to understand, but is written with the idea that the reader knows a little computer science so if you come in with no CS knowledge, don't get discouraged!
Great book. It will teach you coding. It's not going to hold your hand and teach you how to make a game from beginning to end. it's going to teach you how to code and give objects in games behaviors. Half way through the book and I can make a script for a character to walk, move the mouse camera, control colors - arrays, loops etc..It's a book but it beats a youtube video that feeds you a script that works but gives you know idea why. It's an older book but it's all still relevant info. Thanks Alex Okita.It's a good book.
I love this book and have learned so much about programming, especially coming from the artist perspective. This book is like a bible to me.The author has taken the time to address the issues of the files missing on github, so I have changed my rating from 4 stars to 5.I love the book and would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn at their pace and really understand the nuances of C# in Unity3D. =)
A very good book for someone that is comfortable in Java and thinks they understand C#. I appreciate the separation of difficulty in language levels and the view point from someone who started on the art side and worked their way back to programming.
Very good book for beginners and intermediates in programming. The book also covers some game design and programming principles which is good for those who want to learn how to code.
