When the day of my demise arrives, I probably won't have much in the way of cash or valuable material goods to bestow on my loved ones. The ridiculous life I've lived has left me with with a bit of an income shortage. However, the memories I've got tucked away in my head are plentiful and colorful. It's my hope that this book, once filled, will be the most desirable item in the stuff that my kids get to sift through. I would have LOVED to get something like this from several of my now-deceased relatives.Speaking from the perspective of someone who purchased this book, I have nothing but good things to say. Well, that's not entirely true. There's one thing that I would change about it, if given the chance: It would have been PERFECT if the pages were slightly larger. A little more space in which to write would be great. Then again, the size of the pages, as-is, is probably what keeps me from rambling. It forces the writer to get straight to the point and stick to the meaty parts.Filling in the blanks has proven to be an almost therapeutic experience. I'm remembering things that I would otherwise have no reason to think about (sometimes it's a good thing, sometimes maybe not so fabulous...). I'm really enjoying myself, overall. If you were to ask me, "Should I buy this?" my answer would be, "Yes."
This has to be the worst book to read due to the fact that it is written in pale green lettering. The print is not that large and it is veryto see to read. Anyone with a visual impairment should not buy this book as you will not be able to read it. I am not sure just where I got this book but to me, just my opinion, don't waste your money on this book. Good idea but not thought out as it lacks in so many ways. I want a book that starts at the beginning of my life and goes on from there. This book is ok for those that do not want to have a detailed story of their life, just a thumb nail version of their life. The story about the grandfather was interesting but I had to read it under a strong light and with a magnifier.
I love the idea of this book. I have two problems with it which caused it to lose a star for each one. First it’s very small. Second, since it’s so small the font size is even smaller. The target audience for this book is someone who has lived a good portion of their life and is probably a senior. Seniors need larger books with ,inch larger font. I bought a magnifier to give with the book for this very reason.
I’m so disappointed. Yes, it’s a hardcover but the pages are just a cut above a paperback book. I’d return it but other say there is a restocking fee and also postage charges. I also think it would be extremely difficult to write in because of the small size and binding. I’m really surprised at the 4 and 5 star ratings. I’ll trash it.
I bought this book for my Dad who is 89 yrs old. He recently suffered a stroke, and is homebound. I thought this might be a stimulating pastime for a man of his age, but the print is very light, and hard to see. The print is also small, and difficult for him to see. My siblings and I as well as my Dad love the idea of the book, but I don't know how successful we will be with it.
This book has beautiful prompts throughout. My wife and I wanted to find a book like this to help some of our more inward parents tell us their life histories. We also wanted our own children and grandchildren to learn who our own parents were. A lot of books that are like this are filled with cheezy prompts that just fall flat and seem disingenuous. At one point while looking for books like this, we almost resigned to make up a book ourselves with our own questions that seemed to tell us deeper things about our parents, that is, until we found this particular copy. The book also leaves room for aging and many questions in it cannot be answered until further down the road. Just reading it makes me excited about aging and experiencing all that life is to bring our way:)
For a more intimate look into our parents or loved ones childhood and forward this book asks questions that may seem basic (kinds of pets or animals they had growing up) to more through their eyes type questions (how were meal times when they were younger). It even humanizes them with questions about getting into trouble, first crush, first heart-break, friend betrayal. Most of all though it’s about their memorable experiences, what shaped them which in turn shaped us (their children, their loved ones).Being well into my 40’s I wish I would have been more mindful of family stories. Even though I believe we all have questions of our parents that may never be asked or may never be answered and that no preprinted book could cover for an individual, this book is a beginning to start removing some of the layers to the people we call MOM, DAD, GRANDMA, GRANDPA, and so on.
I bought this for my bonus dad who has begun to have memory problems since he is now elderly. I was afraid it might not be well received. But, he loved it! He paged through the very interesting writing prompts and immediately started telling us a few of the wonderful stories he'd like to put in it! He was so happy that I cared about preserving and passing on his tales of adventure that he actually cried! If you're trying to figure out which if this type of book to purchase, this is the one! I spent hours looking at all the others, they just didn't seem quite right. I'm so glad I decided on this one!I will probably buy 3 more. One for each of my parents, and one for myself. The prompts are suitable for anyone.
